Renowned violinist André Brunet was born in 1976 in Lacolle, Quebec, a small town located in the Montérégie region. Drawn to music at an early age, his parents remarked his strong attraction to music and encouraged him early on to develop his passion. He was fascinated by the violin and began his music training at the tender age of nine.

Joined by his brother Réjean, André began his career by forming the band Les Frères Brunet. They recorded several albums and traveled the world performing together in front of a variety of audiences. In 1997, he was honoured for his high-energy and refined style of playing by being invited to join the infamous La Bottine Souriante. He performed with them in 15 countries until he decided to leave the band in December 2006 to pursue other musical interests.

Today, André remains an active part of the traditional Québécois music scene; whether performing as a duo with his spouse Martine Billette at the piano, as a trio alongside Pierre-Luc Dupuis and Éric Beaudry in De Temps Antan, or with the Celtic Fiddle Festival quartet with brilliant fiddlers Kevin Burke, from Ireland, Christian Lemaître from Brittany, and Irish guitarist Ged Foley, André continues to rise through the ranks among some of the best musicians around. Without a doubt, his passion for traditional Québécois music will keep us begging for more dancing and swinging for years to come!

Martine Billette

Piano teacher

Martine Billette hails from Sainte-Barbe, Quebec. Born into a family of musicians, she stepped into her first jig shoes at the age of four. Taking her first jig lessons with Serge Mathon, she further refined her training with the help of Martin Duhème and Gilles Roy.

Martine has since become an internationally renowned step dancer and is considered one of Quebec's best. She can frequently be seen taking the stage with Pierre Chartrand and Marie-Soleil Pilette in the trio Rapetipetam. But that's not all: Martine is also a well-respected pianist. She excels as much as a musician as she does as a dancer. Growing up with a violinist father gave her the opportunity to learn accompaniment at a very young age, thus developing her ear for traditional music. With a degree in classical piano from the Université de Montréal, Martine is an accomplished pianist in great demand by some of the best musicians in Canada. She has represented the rich folklore of her country touring the U.S., Great Britain, Japan, and France with several groups including Ménage à Trois, the Manigance dance troupe, and the Pierre Schryer Band. Martine received a second Bachelor’s degree in music with a major in music therapy from the Université du Québec à Montréal. She currently works with the elderly at home-care centres in the Lanaudière region.
